Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on His name. – Acts 22:16

What is Baptism?

Jesus created the sacrament of Holy Baptism so that salvation can be granted to anyone who believes the gospel. In baptism, God forgives our sins, rescues us from death, and heals us of the sinful nature we have inherited from Adam.  As St. Peter said, “Baptism now saves you.”  (1 Peter 3:21)

We offer this sacrament to all who would be disciples of Jesus, including infants and children.  He has said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Luke 18:16)

Planning A Baptism

Baptisms at King of Kings are typically done on Sunday mornings, at the beginning of the worship service. On the day of the baptism, please arrive 20-30 minutes before worship starts. A pastor will meet with you to discuss what will happen during the service. Additionally, we will reserve seating for your family at the front of the church. We ask that no pictures with flash be taken during the service.

Baptisms done during our 10:30am service will be livestreamed and recorded. Private baptisms available upon request. Please contact the church office at 816-436-7680 to schedule a baptism.

Choosing A Sponsor/Godparent

Although sponsors are not necessary for baptism, choosing a sponsor is an ancient custom in the church. A baptismal sponsor (or “godparent” for children) promises to be a help and support in the continued spiritual growth of the Christian. Therefore, it is vital that a sponsor shares your faith, will encourage you as a disciple to hear the Word and receive the Sacrament faithfully, and will live as a good example of a follower of Jesus.
